Young Filipino designer Vito Selma produces the most stunning and complicated furniture. His material of options are wood and the man uses it to combine simplicity with creativity allowing the most breathtaking forms which are both functional and artistic concurrently. Vito states that his pieces call to mind the archetypal nudes who stand before artist and audience, showing each curve and crest of their composites. He admits that his jobs are unabashed and unafraid to display the nakedness of wood grain and texture.
Instead of seeing himself because master who expresses full command in the material in which he works, Vito perceives wood in a really different way and yes it occupies an extremely personal space as part of his world. He refers to becoming his ‘partner’, implying the same cooperation of complications and accomplishment, a mutual understanding. Consequently the wood seemingly assimilates the literal ‘flow’ of Vito’s creative outputs and the inspirations.
