Ten Latest Interior Design Trends
With an ear to the ground and an eye on the New Year which is just around the corner, here is a handy round-up of ten great looks which you can easily incorporate into you home decorating plans:
- Accent colours. Heading towards spring we are seeing a move away from simple neutral colour schemes by adding a dash of colour. Try bright orange or lime green for an up-to-the-minute look.
- Curved edges. This has been with us for a while in the kitchen but has now moved on to bedroom furniture and even bathroom cabinets. Look out for curves rather than sharp corners.
- Dark flooring. The pale ash wood floor seems to have had its day. Try dark charcoal grey or even black carpet, rugs or tiles.
- Low level beds. Forget the high up Princess and the Pea look, modern bedrooms are sporting lower beds; try Bensons for Beds for a great collection.
- Minimal window treatments. Get rid of the heavy pelmets, swags and tie backs and let the natural light in. Subtle curtains or blinds are in or nothing at all.
- Corner sofas. The most sociable way to bring friends and family together – the more seats the better. Move the eye round the space with a miss-match of cushions and throws.
- Indoor plants. For the perfect bright green accessory invest in some real life greenery to brighten up your rooms. Beautiful and holistically beneficial too.
- Over sized dining tables. If you have the space in your house then go for a long or wide model, ideally with enough room for at least twelve chairs. Modern or classic in design it is up to you.
- Symmetry and pairings. Two identical chairs angled towards each other in a bay window, matching lamps at opposite sides of the bed or even just a pair of paintings displayed together on one wall.
- Subtle patterns. Wall coverings and fabrics are patterned but in a muted way. Leaf motifs are prevalent and keep an eye out for sheens to pick out designs.
