Dream Summer House Design Including Dining Spaces

Placed in a wooded area in Stockholm, Sweden, this contemporary summer house sits with the forest edge overlooking the ocean. Spreading over 250 square meters, Villa Plus by Waldemarson Berglund Arkitekter consists of a good and narrow first floor, almost fully glazed, as well as a perpendicular second floor by having an impressive framed view through the upstairs reading nook. Reached with a lightwell displaying a white and black staircase, this uplifted, isolated spot can be a retreat into yourself or take notice of the weather changing, even dining upstairs. About the same note, the playful mixture of red, grayscale in the earth floor dining space produces the wish of being the one that faces the vista instead of the vibrant colored wall while dining.

I like how another possible outdoor dining space inside the back provides freeing feeling of being outside and opens the views to the water by way of a glass “break” within the volume. This allowed the architects to create an even more private set of spaces. The load-bearing walls are made from hand-picked panels of Swedish pine, integrating the contemporary summer house into its surroundings. Constructed about the borderland between rocks, grass and water, Villa Plus took a couple of years to complete, however the outcome is inviting and stunningly open.
